Breastfeeding is crucial in Nepal for the health and development of infants, providing essential nutrients and antibodies that boost immunity and reduce the risk of infections. Despite its benefits, breastfeeding practices face challenges in the country. Cultural beliefs, lack of awareness, and inadequate support for breastfeeding mothers contribute to suboptimal breastfeeding rates. The government and various organizations are working to promote breastfeeding through awareness campaigns and policies to improve maternal and child health. However, more efforts are needed to ensure widespread adoption of optimal breastfeeding practices across all regions of Nepal. Highlighting all these, in this episode of the podcast Gulabi Sambad, we have discussed the importance and current status of breastfeeding in Nepal.
