Many of the leading entrepreneurs here in Australia and New Zealand have immigrant backgrounds, playing a vital role in driving innovation and economic growth. One such success and inspirational story are of our entrepreneur – Raj Maharjan. He moved to New Zealand thousands of miles from home and chased where his talents and drive would be most appreciated and successfully achieved his dream. He is indeed an embodiment of true entrepreneurship, and now he is giving back, ensuring that other immigrants will have their opportunity to succeed. Raj is a qualified planner with New Zealand planning experience since 2007 and a Master of Planning Practice (with Honours) from the University of Auckland. Nine years of Raj’s expertise is with Councils in Auckland. Within Auckland Council, Raj held the roles of Senior Consents Planner and Policy Planner. As Policy Planner, Raj has extensive experience in the plan-making and plan change process under the Resource Management Act (RMA). On behalf of the Auckland Council, Raj provided expert planning advice to prepare the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan (PAUP). His Unitary Plan experience involved managing the RMA process for the proposed re-zoning and precincts.
