A Survival Guide for Young Girls

When will the politicization of women's bodies end? Last month it was former law minister Sher Bahadur Tamang's sexist remarks on Nepali girls studying in Bangladesh. When the state refers to women as cheli-beti, it does so at the expense of our status as citizens which means it can pretend to love us, protect us, admonish us, taunt us instead of upholding our rights for equality, safety and dignity.

 It is convenient for the state to call us cheli-beti because once they refer to us as citizens they have to give us equal rights.
